Elections: Nigeria Shuts Land, Sea Borders

Comrade Abba Moro, Nigeria’s Minister of Internal Affairs has ordered that all land and sea borders be shut ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly polls coming up on March 28.

A statement issued by the ministry said the Minister has ordered that the borders be shut from midnight of Wednesday, March 25 to reopen by midnight, Saturday, March 28 when the elections would have been concluded.

The Permanent Secretary to the minister signed the release and noted that the borders were to remain shut to make for a peaceful poll.

The Minister explained that the directive was meant to ensure “peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national elections.”

The Nigeria Immigration Service, (NIS) was also directed not to allow foreigners partake in the electoral process.
