The suspension slammed on Edo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, has been lifted. The decision to lift the suspension on the hitherto embattled chairman was announced on Saturday by the State Working Committee, SWC of the PDP.
Recall that Aziegbemi was suspended following the decision of a faction of the party to challenge an alleged attempt by the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to dissolve the party’s structures from the ward to the state level.
A committee was consequently set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against him. It was this Committee that cleared Aziegbemi of any wrongdoing.
Announcing the decision of the SWC, the state publicity secretary of the party, Chris Nehikhare, said a meeting called to deliberate on the report of the investigation exonerated and acquitted the Chairman.
According to Nehikhare, “The suspension has therefore been lifted. Consequently, the Chairman, Hon. Tony Aziegbemi will resume his office with immediate effect”.
The PDP thanked all party members, supporters, and leaders “for their cooperation and support during this period of self-audit”.
