Obaseki announced his resignation after meeting with the President, Mohammadu Buhari. The former APC governor has in the past few days been lobbying PDP governors and leaders of the party on his desire to seek reelection on the party’s platform. A crucial meeting is going on about now in Benin between leaderships of both parties on sharing of political offices with the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu said to be resisting any attempt to sacrifice him. The PDP believes it cannot gift the office of governor to Obaseki and still accommodate Shaibu as the deputy governorship candidate.
