The Nigeria Police Force has arrested twelve members of a notorious robbery gang connected to the tragic death of Arise TV journalist Sommie Maduagwu during a violent attack in Abuja.

According to official reports, the suspects were apprehended by security operatives while heading for another planned operation in the Maitama area. Their arrest followed coordinated intelligence efforts that tracked their movements using stolen mobile phones from previous victims.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple robberies across the Federal Capital Territory, including the fatal attack that led to Maduagwu’s death. Each member reportedly received ₦200,000 from the proceeds of the crime.

One of the gang members, Sani Sirajo, revealed chilling details, admitting that he tried to hold Maduagwu from falling during the incident but failed. “She was too heavy. I tried to help her, but I lost my grip,” he reportedly told investigators.

Police sources also confirmed that the robbers shot a security guard at the residence after he tried to prevent their entry. Recovered items include four stolen phones, an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, machetes, and high-grade flashlights used in their operations.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 31, hail from Katsina, Kaduna, and Borno States. Their identities remain partially concealed as investigations continue to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
