The All Progressives Party, APC has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of using some miscreants to disrupt today’s governorship and state House of Assembly election in some states.
Addressing journalists at his Ikeja GRA residence in Lagos State on Saturday, Lai Mohammed, national spokesman for the APC said political violence recorded in Rivers State on Saturday was stage managed by the PDP to pave way for Nyesom Wike, its governorship candidate to win the election.
Mohammed alleged that 25-gun totting militants suspected to be PDP supporters have thrown dynamites into the residence of Dawary George, a member of the House of Representatives in Rivers and demobilised his security details.
He added that some “PDP hoodlums have been used as adhoc staff to hijack election materials” in the state. Mohammed said there had also been reports of snatching of voting materials in Obio-Akpo local government area of Rivers.
Stating that the situation was not different in Akwa-Ibom, Imo and Abia states, the APC spokesman claimed that thugs believed to be PDP loyalists have also caused crisis and disrupted voting process in some parts of Lagos, including Badagry and Ikeja LGAs.
When contacted, Femi Akinbiyi, spokesman for Lagos office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said the Commission has not received any report of ballot snatching or fighting from any part of the state.
Mohammed however said the card reader appears to be much more effective for today’s election than last Presidential and National Assembly elections.
