A stalwart of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and renowned educationist, Kenneth Imansuagbon, has knocked the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government for celebratiing the savings from subsidy removal amidst deplorable condition of roads, worsening insecurity, struggling public hospitals, underfunded schools and unprecedented suffering by ordinary Nigerians.
Tasking the citizens to demand accountability for the funds, the former governorship aspirant in Edo State, urged Nigerians to reject the APC-led administration in the 2027 general election and vote massively for the ADC presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as the leader best positioned to rescue the country from its worsening economic crisis.
In a statement issued in Benin City weekend, the proprietor of the high-brow Pacesetters Group of Schools, Abuja, popularly known as the “Rice Man” for his annual free rice distribution to vulnerable Nigerians, said the promise by Atiku Abubakar to restore fuel subsidy where necessary demonstrated compassion and a willingness to put the welfare of ordinary citizens above political pride.
While lamenting that the policy had plunged millions of Nigerians deeper into poverty, hunger and economic despair, Imansuangbon posited that every policy must ultimately be judged by its impact on the people, not by government propaganda.
He noted that since the removal of subsidy, Nigerians had witnessed an unprecedented rise in the cost of living, with transportation fares, food prices, electricity, healthcare and education becoming unaffordable for millions of families.
According to him, instead of delivering prosperity as promised, the policy has destroyed purchasing power, forced businesses to close, increased unemployment and pushed many citizens below the poverty line.
Imansuangbon questioned the Federal Government’s repeated claims that trillions of naira had been saved from subsidy removal.
“The APC government promised that removing subsidy would translate into a better life for Nigerians, but the exact opposite has happened. Nigerians are poorer today than they were before the policy was introduced.
“A government exists to improve the lives of its citizens, and when its policies continue to inflict pain without corresponding benefits, the people have a constitutional and democratic responsibility to demand change through the ballot box,” he said.
The ADC chieftain opined that Atiku Abubakar possesses the experience, economic competence and political will to reverse the nation’s downward economic slide.
He expressed confidence that an Atiku administration would immediately introduce people-oriented economic reforms, restore confidence in the economy, reduce the burden on struggling households and place Nigeria back on the path of sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
Imansuagbon therefore called on Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides to unite in 2027 and vote out the Tinubu administration, insisting that the election presented an opportunity to rescue the country from worsening hardship and poverty.
“This is no longer about politics; it is about survival. Nigerians must use their votes to end policies that have deepened suffering and embrace leadership that puts the welfare of the people first.
“A vote for Atiku Abubakar is a vote to rescue Nigeria and restore hope to millions of struggling citizens,” he said.
