Aliko Dangote, President, Dangote group, has said the anti corruption move by President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is one that would help to recover the country’s economy and better the lot of Nigerians. “The war on corruption will ensure more effective service delivery in schools and hospitals,” Dangote said today, (Monday) while addressing a meeting of the Nigerian business community, in Abuja.
Dangote told the conference, which also comprised of a delegation of the United Nations, UN led by Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, that the government was also taking measures to diversify the economy by promoting local production of commodities, saying the “economy will benefit from it in the long-run.”
“We are committed to driving social and economic change in Nigeria in a responsible and sustainable way. In the next four years, Nigeria will be self-sufficient in rice, Sugar and also other commodities, and will be the largest exporter of petroleum and fertilizer products in Africa with millions of jobs being created,” Dangote, who said he did not want to be only known as the richest man in Africa but the biggest philanthropist, said. The theme of the meeting was: `The Role of Nigerian Business and the Economy in Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and Addressing Climate Change’.
Also speaking at the event, Ban said the meeting was fostered
by the fact that the UN and members of the Nigerian business community shared “common objective: advancing prosperity for people.” The UN secretary-general, who expressed appreciation to the entire attendants for coming together to discuss how the UN and Nigerian business community could work together to realise “our dream and vision” said, “You are the drivers of economic
and social transformation in Nigeria. I need your support.”
