Tension has engulfed Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State after bandits launched a brutal attack on the community of Irunda Ile, killing two residents in the early hours of Tuesday.
The assault, described as sudden and coordinated, has deepened anxiety among locals who say they are already overwhelmed by ongoing insecurity and repeated incursions by criminal groups.
In the aftermath of the attack, angry youths reportedly stormed the streets to protest government inaction and demand protection. Eyewitnesses say security operatives deployed to the scene fired live ammunition at the unarmed crowd.
Two protesters were shot, and one was k!lled instantly, further inflaming tensions in the area.
Residents say the dual tragedy — bandit violence followed by alleged state brutality — reflects a worsening breakdown of trust between citizens and security institutions.
