A tragic incident unfolded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a tanker carrying Chivita products caught fire, resulting in the death of a police officer and sparking chaos as bystanders looted the burning vehicle.

Eyewitnesses say the fire broke out following a crash involving the tanker on a busy stretch of the highway. As emergency services struggled to contain the blaze, a police officer at the scene reportedly lost his life in the inferno.

Shockingly, rather than fleeing the hazardous scene, some individuals took the opportunity to break into the wrecked tanker and steal its cargo—believed to be cartons of Chivita juice and other beverages.

Video clips and photos circulating on social media show crowds grabbing goods amid the smoke and flames, with no regard for the danger or the loss of life.

The incident has sparked outrage among Nigerians online, with many condemning both the looting and the slow emergency response. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the fire or confirm the number of casualties.

This latest tragedy adds to the growing concerns over highway safety, emergency preparedness, and lawlessness on major Nigerian roads. As investigations continue, many are calling for stricter regulations and faster emergency intervention on expressways prone to such disasters.
