First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu” by the traditional rulers of Enugu State during her recent visit.

The title, meaning “Jewel of Women Empowerment”, was bestowed in recognition of her outstanding efforts in uplifting women and advancing maternal health in Nigeria. The colourful ceremony, held under the auspices of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, was led by its chairman,

His Royal Highness Igwe Samuel Asadu, who also publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reelection in 2027, marking a significant political statement from the royal institution.

The First Lady was joined in Enugu by eight other First Ladies from across the country, creating a strong display of solidarity and commitment to women’s empowerment nationwide.

As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) outreach, Senator Tinubu distributed 10,000 essential kits to midwives, strengthening maternal and child health services in the region.

She also empowered 1,000 women traders with ₦50 million in grants and provided food relief to hundreds of vulnerable families.“This is more than a title. It’s a call to action—and I will continue to stand with Nigerian women, mothers, and entrepreneurs,” Senator Tinubu said in her remarks.

The visit was widely praised by community leaders, healthcare workers, and beneficiaries alike, many of whom noted that this was the first time such a large-scale initiative had been brought directly to local women and health workers in the state.

The “Ugosimba 1” title may be ceremonial—but its symbolism is national: a call for more inclusive governance that uplifts the unseen pillars of society.
