Kwara State has achieved another major milestone in fiscal governance, emerging as the third-best performing state in Nigeria in the 2025 State of States Fiscal Performance Ranking released by BudgIT, a leading civic-tech organization known for its independent evaluation of fiscal transparency and sustainability across all 36 states.
The latest report highlights Kwara’s steady rise in fiscal performance over the past three years — from 10th position in 2023, to 4th in 2024, and now 3rd in 2025. This remarkable trajectory underscores the administration’s strong commitment to accountability, prudent financial management, and efficient public spending.
According to BudgIT’s assessment, the ranking measures states based on revenue generation, debt sustainability, fiscal transparency, and budget implementation efficiency. Kwara’s continued improvement reflects the impact of ongoing fiscal reforms and governance innovations under the leadership of **His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Reacting to the development, the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, praised the Governor’s vision-driven approach to public finance, describing the recognition as “a testament to the administration’s unwavering reforms in fiscal discipline, data-driven planning, and transparent governance.”
She added that the latest ranking validates the state’s commitment to sustainable financial management practices that ensure optimal use of resources and long-term economic resilience.
“This achievement is not just about numbers — it reflects a clear direction in governance where transparency, accountability, and efficiency drive every financial decision,” Dr. Nuru noted.
The state government reaffirmed its resolve to deepen ongoing fiscal reforms, enhance revenue generation without overburdening citizens, and maintain responsible expenditure patterns that promote inclusive growth and equitable development across all sectors.
With this latest recognition, Kwara State continues to consolidate its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most transparent and fiscally responsible subnational governments, serving as a model for other states in public finance and governance reform.
