The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced the launch of a groundbreaking new award — the “FIFA Peace Prize” — created to recognise exceptional actions for peace, unity, and social harmony around the world.

The prestigious award will be presented annually, with the first-ever recipient unveiled on December 5, 2026, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the initiative, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the prize reflects football’s enduring power to unite people and inspire positive change, even in troubled times.

“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it’s fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace,” Infantino stated.

He added that the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World is an extension of FIFA’s global campaign promoting peace and cooperation through the sport’s universal language.

“Football stands for peace, and on behalf of the entire global football community, the FIFA Peace Prize will recognise the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for future generations.”

The initiative has been widely praised as a timely and visionary move by FIFA, highlighting football’s unmatched ability to bridge divides, heal wounds, and strengthen the bonds of humanity across nations.
