The Federal Government has intensified its drive to empower young Nigerians through the Nigerian Youth Academy Gigs Initiative, a programme designed to equip youths with practical skills, digital competencies, and financial support to scale their businesses.
The initiative, organised by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development under the leadership of Minister Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, received a major boost with the participation of the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination & Head of the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit, Hadiza Bala Usman.
Speaking at the event, Bala Usman praised the programme as a strategic intervention aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national economic agenda, which targets the growth of a $1 trillion economy anchored on job creation, MSME expansion, and digital innovation.
She emphasized that empowering the youth sector remains critical to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential, noting that the Academy Gigs Initiative is already demonstrating real impact across communities.
A highlight of the event was the disbursement of ₦1 million grants each to over 100 young entrepreneurs selected across diverse business sectors. The financial support is expected to help recipients expand their ventures, create jobs, and contribute to local and national development.
Describing the grants as “a direct investment in Nigeria’s economic future,” Bala Usman commended Minister Olawande for his commitment to youth empowerment and the consistent rollout of programmes that address unemployment and strengthen the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
She also assured the Minister of her office’s continued support in driving youth-focused initiatives, reinforcing the administration’s goal of building a productive, digitally skilled, and economically empowered generation.
With the Nigerian Youth Academy Gigs Initiative gaining momentum, stakeholders say this marks another significant step in the Federal Government’s broader efforts to equip young Nigerians with the tools needed to thrive in an innovation-driven global economy.
