The Federal Government has partnered with the Aliko Dangote Foundation to launch a landmark ₦100 billion annual scholarship fund aimed at expanding access to quality education for millions of Nigerian students.

The historic initiative was unveiled in Lagos with Vice President Kashim Shettima joining Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, to officially flag off the programme.

The high-profile ceremony attracted an array of dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, state governors, traditional rulers, leading industrialists, and other prominent stakeholders from across the country.

Vice President Shettima described the initiative as a bold investment in Nigeria’s future, stressing that education remains the most powerful driver of national development and social mobility. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with the private sector to strengthen human capital and create opportunities for young Nigerians.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation announced that the ₦100bn yearly scholarship programme will support students across all levels—from primary to tertiary institutions—providing financial assistance to vulnerable families and enabling millions to pursue academic goals without economic barriers.

According to Aliko Dangote, the initiative reflects his commitment to empowering the next generation and addressing long-standing inequalities in educational access. He noted that sustained private-sector support, combined with government partnership, is key to building a skilled and competitive workforce capable of driving national prosperity.

Education experts have hailed the scholarship fund as one of the most ambitious philanthropic interventions in Nigeria’s history, with the potential to reshape the country’s learning landscape and uplift disadvantaged communities.

The Federal Government stated that it will continue to collaborate with development partners to scale similar interventions that promote inclusive education and long-term national growth.
