The movement of Joshua Arowojolu, chairman, Gbonyin Local Government Area, LGA chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been restricted to his house in Egbe, Gbonyin local government, LG, by men of the Nigerian Police Force in the early hours of Saturday.
Adewale Omirin, Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, told the magazine that the 72-year-old party leader was barred from taking part in the accreditation process, which may prevent him from voting in the gubernatorial election as the police hindered anyone from coming in and out of his premises.
Omirin added that the development would also affect the participation of the party agents in the area.
He said the tags issued by INEC for party agents are in Arowojolu’s house and without the tags they would be unable to monitor the electoral process in the area.
“They have not told us the offence of his family. Nobody can go in or out. This is supposed to be a free and fair election, why have they placed him under a house arrest?” the Speaker inquired.
However, Victor Babayemi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti command, told the magazine that he can not confirm the development.
Meanwhile, accreditation process has been peaceful in most of the polling units in Isan, Oye Local Government Area. Electorates came out in their hundreds to take part in the electoral exercise.Follow Us on Social Media
