It is believed that some groups in the northern Nigeria speaking against the second term ambition of President Bola Tinubu are doing so to satisfy their personal interests. Such groups are also suspected to be reliving the plans of some politicians who are bent on working against the sustenance of power by political leaders from the southern part of the country.
These are the beliefs of Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, m member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 election.
He has, therefore, called on political leaders and traditional rulers to rise up to the challenge and protect President Tinubu from the few individuals who he said are hell-bent on stopping his reelection in 2027.
Oyintiloye, a vocal APC leader in Osun State, while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, also expressed the concern that the said group of elites who claimed to be speaking for people in the North, has made a habit to sabotage any southerner as president.
According to him, Tinubu does not deserve the hate campaign coming from the self-appointed spokespersons of the north because the president has demonstrated over the years that he is a friend of the North and has always supported political cause of the region. It is his belief, therefore, that the North should reciprocate by supporting his bid for second term.
While arguing that Southern president often suffer embarrassment and hate campaign in office, from the opposition by what he described as a “tiny section of the North”, Oyintiloye said,
“This has been recurring, and the nation’s political history won’t forget the kind of intimidation Southern President often suffered in the hands of very few men from the North who always mount serious opposition to the reelection bid of such President.
“But in the case of President Bola Tinubu, he has done enough to get the support of the major power bloc in the North.
“Therefore, the time has come for the region to further put the tiny few behind the mischief being plotted against the President where they really belong.
“These individuals are self-appointed leaders of the North, so the region’s recognised political leaders and royal fathers can’t continue to watch the trend and allow blackmail against Tinubu to gain traction.”
So, what does he expect traditional rulers, not being politicians, to do in this regard? The former legislator believes that the traditional rulers have a duty to
“Champion the support for the President within the region and work with their colleagues from the North to ensure victory for Tinubu in 2027.”
He also said that ” ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Prof. Wole Soyinka, former President of the Nigeria Senate, Ken Nnamani, and other Southern elders,” should rise to the occasion and stop a repeat of negative history.
“They should defend Southern Nigeria from the few Northern power mongers,” he further said.
Oyintiloye, who declared that Tinubu’s re-election would stabilize Nigeria, also stated that the President in his second term, would continue to ensure fairness in federal government’s developmental drive for all regions in the country.
