We can confirm that Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye stepped down as the general overseer of the redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG not because he was tired or that he responded to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Rather, he took the step in deference to the move by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRC on governance code of all registered churches and mosques in the country. The move that started in 2013, following an initiative by Olusegun Aganga, former minister of Trade was challenged in court by some stakeholders. Though there was not much of development on the issue since the middle of last year, Adeboye may have taken the step to pre-empt a hurried exit. The FRC had proposed the regulation of worship centers with rules including restriction of tenure of the head of such religious body not exceeding 20 years.
Adeboye has spent more than that. This development will affect some other leaders like Mike Okonkwo of The Redeemed Evangelical Ministry, TREM with the headquarter at Gbagada, Lagos and the head of Deeper Life Bible Church.
