Nyesom Wike
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun of the Supreme Court, Abuja has upheld the election of Nyesom Wike the Rivers State governor. The decision of the apex court put to rest all the controversy surrounding his election as governor as well as the legal claims of Dakuku Peterside, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, The Supreme Court has said it will provide the reasons for its decision on February 12th.The judge set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal which nullified the election of Wike.
An Appeal Court had on December 16 affirmed the judgment of the Rivers Governorship Election Tribunal, which ruled that Wike, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was not validly elected in the last governorship election. The Rivers Tribunal had earlier on October 24 nullified Wike’s election and ordered that a fresh governorship election is conducted in the state.
Peterside had challenged the election of Wike in an election, which received local criticism from local and international observers.
