Smile Communications Gets NCC Commendation

Smile Communications

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has commended broadband service provider, Smile Communications Nigeria Limited for introducing innovative services that are bound to help change the face of the nation’s telecommunications industry. The nation’s telecom industry regulator gave the commendation in Ibadan at the official opening of the Bodija Model Shop of Smile, through its Zonal Controller at the Ibadan Zonal office, Mr. Patrick Banji Ojo, who declared that Smile has come to Nigeria to change the face of the telecom industry.

Ojo noted that since its inception, Smile has continuously added to the competition in the industry. “Smile is providing a more robust service through their kind of technology which is the LTE, especially now that we are in the internet era. I must say that to enjoy the internet, you need data, and it must be fast and I guess that is what Smile is doing at the moment. What they are doing today is commendable but we want this telecom company to get closer to the people and we hope that they can get to other parts of the country as fast as they can.”

Against the background of the pervading economic recession in the country, he said that the threat of recession has nothing to do with the telecom sector as according to him, people must continue to make phone calls as well as make use of data in their daily businesses. “Telecom today is like food, you just have to eat no matter how broke you may be. You have to find a way to eat. So, the same thing applies to the telecom sector, you have to find a way to communicate either through voice or data. So, people despite the harsh economic realities would have to find a way to communicate as the recession is just a temporary thing and very soon if we get things right, we would get out of it. We have been in and out of it before and I can assure that we would get over it”.

Also speaking at the event, the General Manager, Sales and Distribution of Smile Communications Nigeria, Kenneth Esenwah, explained that the company started its business operation in Ibadan three years ago and since then has been growing from strength to strength. “Today we have three shops in the city. So, we just felt that since a lot of people in Ibadan embraced our network, we decided that we are going to open more shops to serve Ibadan community better and that is why we are opening another outlet here in Bodija, Ibadan.”

He disclosed that with the launch of SmileVoice, a lot of people are coming into the Smile network because its call is crystal clear and “above all our call rate at 8kobo per second is the cheapest especially when compared with other networks that are charging between 14kobo and 15kobo per second.”  Esenwah disclosed that apart from Ibadan, Smile is available in Lagos, Benin, Kaduna, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Asaba, and Onitsha. Smile Communications Nigeria Limited, he reiterated, was founded in 2007 with the transformative objective of using the best and most innovative technologies to provide its customers with high quality, easy to use and affordable communication services. Its vision and mission are to be the broadband provider of choice in Nigeria and to enable its customers to fully benefit from the Internet world. Smile launched West Africa’s first true 4G LTE network in Ibadan in 2013 thereby revolutionizing the way people access the Internet.

In his own remark, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Barr. Seun Abimbola who was represented by Mrs. Kofoworola Akinbode also commended Smile for its untiring efforts aimed at rendering quality services to suit their customers’ needs and urged the company to keep up the good work.  Other dignitaries in attendance include a cross section of notable dealers of Smile Nigeria as well as Mr. Femi Opatunmbi, who represented the Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters Hon. Bimbo Kolade.
