The Council of Legal Education has approved the establishment of a campus of the Nigerian Law School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The letter of approval for the Port Harcourt campus was presented to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday at Government House, Port Harcourt by the management of the Council of Legal Education led by the Chairman, Emeka Ngige, and the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Isa Chiroma.

The CLE said the approval for the setting up of the campus of the Law School in Port Harcourt was sequel to a proposal made by Governor Wike to the council several months ago at Yenagoa, where Wike made a commitment to build student hostels at the cost of N5 billion.

Wike, in receiving the letter of approval, promised to get the campus ready within six months. He also requested the Council of Legal Education to allow individuals and corporate bodies to also build facilities at the campus, which could be named after the donors.

The governor also requested that the Port Harcourt campus of the Law School should be named after a former Attorney General of the Federation, the late Nabo Graham-Douglas.

The carrying capacity of the Nigerian Law School is currently at 6,000 while the number of applications to go to Law School is about 10,000.
