Governor Abubakar has raised the Bar in Governance –      Hon. Shehu Garba Gummi, Sole Administrator, Gummi LG - TELL Magazine

Governor Abubakar has raised the Bar in Governance –      Hon. Shehu Garba Gummi, Sole Administrator, Gummi LG

His Excellency, Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar, Shattiman Mafara, Executive Governor of Zamfara State is adored by his people as a result of his concern about their welfare and well-being. A prudent manager of resources, Governor Abubakar has impacted positively on the lives of Zamfara citizenry.

Zamfara State is witnessing positive transformation in all sectors of the people’s social and economic life. Be it in infrastructure development like road construction, bridges, schools renovation or construction, erection of hospitals; provision of electricity and potable water, the administration has touched every nook and cranny of Zamfara State. The governor also has launched a bold initiative in health care delivery. His courage to stand for what is right, even if it means standing alone has brought the necessary transformation that has salvaged the people from the clutches of poverty.

In the words of Hon. Shehu Garba Gummi, Sole Administrator, Gummi Local Government, LG, “Yari Abubakar’s administration has provided quality service delivery in all sectors in a short time and has raised the bar of governance which will be difficult for anyone to surpass.

Hon. Gummi has emulated Governor Abubakar as a visionary leader and is armed with a vision to better the lives of his people. He had his primary education in Gummi before gaining admission to Government Science Secondary School, Gummi. He later proceeded to Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, where he obtained B.Sc in Mathematics. To add to his knowledge, he proceeded to University of Abuja, Gwagwalada for a Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy. He is currently pursuing his master’s in Philosophy.

From a classroom teacher he became a Deputy Director, Finance at the state Ministry of Finance and rose to the position of a full-fledged Director of Finance in the same ministry. In 2011 he was appointed as Sole Administrator of Gummi Local Government Area and was recalled to Government House, Gusau to hold the office of Director-General in 2013. He was later posted back to Gummi as Sole Administrator.

Hon. Gummi identified very early the cardinal areas of fulfilling his dreams for his LG. A one-time Mathematics teacher, Hon Gummi, a role model in grassroots development, wasted no time or efforts in giving the people of his LG the needed dividend of democracy. In this interview, the Sole Administrator speaks on Governor Abubakar’s projects in his LG, his own achievements in Gummi LG as well as calling on the people to vote the governor in for second term. Excerpts:

What projects have Governor Abubakar executed in your LG?

The governor has done a lot for our people. He took it upon himself to alleviate the sufferings of the people by constructing the federal road that links Gummi to the eastern part of the state, Sokoto–Gusau Road at Konar, Mayanci another roads is that of Gummi–Gayari Road; he went further to relieve the burden of rural dwellers by embarking on another important road project, which is about to be completed, that is Daki Takwas, Gwalli–Pass.

gummiCOMPLITED-CLINIC-ATSCHOOL-FOR-SPECIAL-EDUCATION-In the education sector, the governor performed extremely well and that is worthy of emulation by his colleagues. Primary and secondary schools were constructed and others were renovated and furnished in order to facilitate quality education. All the schools we have in Gummi have been improved upon, without leaving any out. Schools were totally rehabilitated and equipped with modern furniture so that qualitative education can be enhanced in this area.

Poverty Alleviation

The state government provided us with car motorcycles and tricycles to cushion the poverty level on our people. The LG also benefited from the benevolence of the governor as he provided welfare to our people especially during the annual Sallah festival. We got sizable number of foodstuffs including cows and rams, and clothing materials. The governor also extended his good hands to our farmers by selling a bag of fertilizer at the rate of N1,000. I also borrow a leaf from His Excellency by spending from my own personal pocket the sum of over N1 million in providing some amenities to our people. These include foodstuffs, roofing sheets, clothing materials and assist those with medical problems.gummiCOMPLITED-ROAD-AT-GUMMI-ROUND

What will you focus much on?

On assumption of office, I started thinking of how to control flood in the LG. The Council concluded on constructing light drainages and culverts. Therefore we did some culverts at Daki Takwas, Birnin Tudu and Yar Kwana within the LG. We also help in refilling potholes along our roads in order to avoid unforeseen circumstances and also poured gravel in the Central Market Gummi, in order to avoid flooding in the market. We renovated some houses that got burnt some years back. I also renovated the DPO’s house, and Islamiyya schools at Yar Dutse. Also my projects include construction of Friday mosques at Kofar Shanu and renovated one at Gwalli.

We constructed two boreholes at a new settlement called Sabowar Yar Gutsura and one other at a dispensary in Daki Takwas. I also provided an office accommodation with computers for National Identification Card Commission in Gummi Town. I equally provided a befitting accommodation for the heads of our security here. I have the intention to embark on a major facelift of Gummi town. Before the intervention of the state government, Gummi people were very happy over the little I can especially the facelift of the central market and other places in the town. I provided guidance and counselling for the youth, I help in their areas of need. Some need to go back to school and further their studies. Others want to join the federal services. A few also need money to establish a trade. I responded to all for the betterment of the LG and the state at large.

Security

My aim is to retain sanity and provide security among my people. This made me to invite soldiers from Kebbi and engaged police and other sources of local vigilante to man the LG. So armed robbery in this area is highly minimised.

And to consolidate on all these the Local Government Council provides transport feeding and other logistics.

What do you say to people of Zamfara State?

I am calling on all people living in the state to vote A.A. Yari into office again. Everyone in the state is a living witness of Gov. A.A. Yari giant and remarkable development across the state. He is working hard to enhance the living standard of the common man in Zamfara.
