Charles Ayo, vice chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, has advised Muhammadu Buhari, the President-elect of Nigeria, to invest in Information and Communications Technology, ICT infrastructure and manpower training at all levels in order to improve education in Nigeria.
This, he said, at the 2015 Hayford Alile Foundation annual lecture held at the Julius Berger hall of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, while speaking on the theme, “E-education: Critical Impacts on Learning and Human Intelligence.”
Ayo explained that E-education is the use of information tools and concepts to enable the process of teaching and learning, which includes, Internet, mobile computing, free and open source software.
“ICT is the best solution provider and new methods of opportunity to reach out to a wider audience. It gives the students opportunity to also learn at their own time and pace outside the classroom.
“It creates opportunity for more inclusive education particularly for persons living in the rural areas,” he said.
Ayo added that ICT in schools will help develop Nigeria as the use of old teaching methods is becoming boring to the teeming youngsters.
“Government must invest massively in improving the educational system of Nigeria,” Ayo added.
Also speaking at the event, Hayford Alile, the founder of The Hayford Alile Foundation, THAF, urged Nigerians to continue to pray for peace in Nigeria. “We should contribute our quota in whatever way we can so as to help Nigeria develop,” he said.
The event, which was held to celebrate Alile’s 75th birthday also gave out award of recognition to John Momoh, Chairman of Channels television, Toyin Bello, Nigerian musician and photographer, and Babaginda Dauda, an exporter of leather works.
